Intern with the Eye Spy Foundation

Work on a real project for the blind and low vision community, with weekly mentorship from our team. We run remote internships called Operations, and we bring people on individually or as part of a cohort depending on the role. It's how we live our motto: Living Life Through a Different Lens.

How Our Internships Work

We run internships as "Operations." A Mini Operation is a focused 1–2 month sprint, and a Regular Operation runs 2–4 months with more room to build. Every internship can be extended if it's going well for both of us.

Depending on the role, you'll work individually or as part of a cohort. Either way, you'll work on a real project with real agency, not busywork. In exchange, we ask you to leave behind full documentation: your methodology, designs, and any assets, written clearly enough that another intern or staff member can pick up where you left off.

We're a remote team, and we meet weekly for a check-in call on how the work is going. If you're in the greater Northeast Florida area, in-person collaboration is possible too.

Current Internship Openings

These are the Operations we're recruiting for right now. Each post has the full role details. Don't see a fit? Pick an Open Submission in the form: Tech, Creative, or Business.

What You'll Gain

All Eye Spy Foundation internships are unpaid. Here's what we provide instead:

  • Ownership of a real project you can point to: portfolio-ready work that shapes our mission, not a simulation
  • A recommendation letter, and help with OPT/CPT paperwork if you need it
  • A LinkedIn testimonial, and help promoting your work on our channels
  • Weekly mentorship and check-ins with the team, not just a task list
  • For some roles, a seat in our organization's AI tool accounts, so you're working with the same frontier models we use
  • The option to extend your internship if it's going well for both of us

Our Software Stack

We keep our software stack lean, interconnected, and efficient. We're a small but mighty team that works with a startup mindset, and these are the tools we use:

  • HubSpot: Marketing, CRM, landing pages, blog, forms, and more
  • Google Suite: Workspace, Meet, Chat, Cloud, Docs, Slides, and more
  • Adobe Suite: Express, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and more
  • Stripe: Payments, memberships, and fundraising
  • Cloudflare: Hosting and web infrastructure
  • GitHub: Code repositories
  • AI: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini
  • Also: AWS, Microsoft, and Twilio

How to Apply

Apply using the form below. We encourage you to:

  • Tailor your resume and cover letter to the Operation description.
  • Tell us why this opportunity jumped out to you, and why Eye Spy.
  • Use AI for inspiration only. We encourage it as a tool, but your application should be in your own voice and words.
  • Connect with us on social media. Find every account in Our Links.
  • Review our websites. It may seem obvious, but it helps you get to know us.
  • Share your work, like portfolio links, your LinkedIn profile, and social links.

We review applications on a rolling basis and reach out by email to schedule a 30-minute conversation. That call isn't a test. We want to understand what excites you and where your particular superpower fits into the work we're doing.

If you'd like to apply in a different format, or need any accommodation during the application or interview process, email team@eyespy.org and we'll work with you.

Operation Wrap Up

Every project is different, but we ask you to do the following before you leave so we can build on the mission-driven work you've done:

  • One-page summary: What you did, systems you used, challenges you faced, and any open items or ideas.
  • Repos and code: A GitHub repo and documentation for any coding work.
  • Login credentials: Anything needed to access the work, plus notes on ESF ownership of endpoints.

Optional, but encouraged:

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this internship paid?

No. All Eye Spy Foundation internships are unpaid. In exchange, we provide mentorship, a real project for your portfolio, a recommendation letter, OPT/CPT support, and a LinkedIn testimonial. See What You'll Gain above.

Do you offer academic credit?

Yes. We'll coordinate with your school on whatever paperwork or verification they need for credit.

I'm an international student. Can I apply?

Yes. We support F-1 students who need CPT or OPT authorization for practical training.

I'm in high school. Can I apply?

Yes. High school interns need a parent or guardian's signed consent, and we adjust hours and supervision accordingly.

Who owns the work I create?

Eye Spy Foundation owns the code, designs, research, and documentation you produce, so future interns and staff can build on it. You keep the right to show your work in your own portfolio.

Will I sign anything before I start?

Yes. Every intern signs a standard agreement covering confidentiality, ownership of ESF assets, code of conduct, and a media release for the video or write-up you'll create at the end of your internship. You'll sign it through HubSpot during onboarding.

What does the interview process look like?

All interns begin with an Intern Intel document to get to know our community better. From there, we'll have weekly meetings to discuss priorities, blockers, and ideas.

Do you accept applications on a rolling basis?

Yes. We review applications year-round and bring people on whenever a good fit applies and an Operation is open.

If I'm in a cohort, do we share one project?

Depends on the Operation. Some cohorts share one project with each person owning a piece; others work on individual projects with shared mentorship and check-ins.

Can an internship turn into a paid position?

Not right now. Eye Spy Foundation doesn't currently have funding for paid roles, so internships don't lead to paid conversion at this time.

Do I need accessibility experience?

No, but all of our projects are built accessible first. Every project you touch has to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards (2.2 AA is our target), since everything we build is for the blind and low vision community. We'll teach you what you don't already know.
